So I know the Dodgers are trying to upgrade the team as they head into the final months of the season. Trust me, I get it better than most. The Dodgers are clearly going for it, as they should, but I am a bit frustrated with a couple of the recent transactions. DFA victim one, Bobby Abreu? Really? Ned? Really? Who do I want coming off the bench with runners in scoring position? Oh I know! Pick me! Answer is…anyone not named Juan Uribe, tha’t's for sure.
Then today the Dodgers designate Tony Gwynn Jr., for assignment. Ridiculous. He may not be the superstar his father once was, heck, his dad is a freaking legend. I’m thinking didn’t  junior didn’t get a healthy dosage of that gene, just sayin’. Regardless, he’s still a decent baseball player, and could probably be an upgrade for a few teams out there. He will no doubt generate some trade interest.
Gwynn has got great defense, great range, great speed, and hits pretty good. No pop, but that is okay with me. Uribe? He’s got defense, for now. Range? Yeah, not too bad. Speed? Ummmmmm, that’s a big fat no. Hits pretty good? My seven-year-old-daughter hits better than Uribe. It’s true, it really is. I’d rather have Dontrelle Willis pinch hit for the Dodgers over Uribe. That’s true also. Ridiculous, but true.
Jerry Sands gets the callup for Gwynn, okay, I can swallow that. Sands has more potential, he can play first base, and wait there’s more, he can hit against left-handers. Really, really, good too! So I’m all for that. They may be showcasing Sands, that’s where my money is at least. I have that gut feeling the Dodgers got something in the cauldron brewing, but I can’t really pinpoint the five w’s yet.
So for no reason at all, Juan Uribe survives another day. Even though he is clearly not part of the winning solution. It makes me nauseous to thing Uribe could get another World Series ring. I think I just threw up in my mouth.  Speaking of winning solution, what’s Adam Kennedy still doing here? Throw him in the pot as well. He should have been sent packing in April. Where is Elian Herrera? At least that kid plays with heart and has actual talent. Sheesh! Speaking of no talent, how come James Loney is still here? Oh that’s right, he’s gonna hit 15 homers between now and the end of the season. Forgive me. I forgot.

i agree on most things you say, but james loney is there because of his defense skill. hes the best defensive first basemen in the league.
Best in the league? Not quite, top five maybe, but not the best in the league. Especially when he has only logged 674.2 innings this season. Take a look at Adrian Gonzalez. That’s the best defensive first baseman in the league. He’s also top five offensive.
dodgersrumors  adrian is amazing id rather have him for offense but id choose loney over anyone for defense its just too bad he cant hit well
dodgerskev Well, here is what you have to consider. Does Loney’s defense help balance his woeful offense. The answer is no, not even close. AGon on the other hand, is top 3 offensive, and top 3 defensive, consistently all season long. Trust me, Loney’s days as a Dodger are officially numbered. The only reason he’s here is because, one, he is worthless on the trade market. Two, because the Dodgers tried and tried to upgrade first base over the last couple months, no dice. Reports came out that the Dodgers were going to place Loney on waivers after the Carlos Lee deal. My guess, he finished the year with the Dodgers, then gets non-tendered this fall, and he will be have to settle for a minor league deal.Â
dodgersrumors i dont think it be a smart move to let him go to be honest hes still young anything could happen, and even if hes abench player hes good to have for tough situations on the field.
i also rather have loney over rivera, that boy should be gone
